Beverly asked J out but we're not sure of her intentions. She could just be doing it to support J after his breakup and have fun together. It is pretty early for J to be going out after just breaking up! We'll have to see where this goes.
I guess "talking about it" is different for girls than for guys. I'm not sure if J wants to give anymore details. Will Beverly make a move or try to be a close friend for J to lean on? Stay tuned, friends and fans!
I guess Karl is just accustomed to going to Tanuki to talk about his struggles. Maybe Tanuki is sick of listening and just refuses to interact. Oh well, it's probably for the best. Karl needs to learn to be more confident in himself anyway. Even though Tanuki can be annoying, I wonder if any of you out there miss him?
Maybe if Karl would get with the program and start drinking just enough to loosen up and enjoy Japanese parties, he might have more fun. Not too much, just enough. It's a fine art he will have to learn in order to get to know people. If you're a long time reader, you know that Karl is sensitive to liquour. If you've been to a compa or even just out to eat with friends in Japan you know that the bill can get crazy! All of that drinking and eating. I'm always upset when I barely eat anything, because we're sharing small plates of food, and I don't really drink a lot and have to pay buckets of dough! No wonder everyone gets drunk. If they're going to pay tons of money, they might as well! Let's hope Karl can get his confidence up and try more Japanese while he's out. He seems to be a little shy and unsure of his language skills.
This compa thing isn't working out too great for Karl. It's nice that everyone relaxed a bit after a few drinks but how are you going to make meaningful connections when you're completely plastered?! Do you have a compa story to share in the FORUMS? I'd sure love to hear them!
All of this talk about compa dating parties made me think of how healthy we think sushi is. If you're eating it in Japan then it's probably pretty ok. The Japanese don't really have all the crazy super sushi rolls like in the U.S. Everywhere else though, you've gotta watch yourself if you're trying to watch your weight. I like the fact that young people in Japan get together for a compa. I've always been shy and awkward when it comes to dating so it's nice they have a low pressure way to meet people. Have you ever been to one? We'll see how the dating party goes for Karl in next week's comics. Stay tuned!
Tanaka san is quite the character. It's a good thing he puts all of that energy into his ramen! It's nice that Karl can have another friend join him at his favorite ramen shop. Let's hope Hachiro will enjoy the taste of Tanaka's ramen.
Well, I guess that confirms it! If J "almost" cried then the break up must be real. Let's hope that he can pick himself up and move on. I feel blessed, after over two years of drawing this comic, to have several thousand readers from around the world reading every week.
