Real barbeque is low heat over a long time, especially ribs and chicken.
Japanese barbeque isn't barbeque. They just call it that. High heat with thin slices of meat cooked for anywhere from a few seconds to less than a minute.
I've heard that the Japanese often keep food with eyes to remind them that a living thing died and feel a connection to the creature that gave its life, or something along those lines. It's similar to why the sushi had a fish head right in the middle of the plate with the gills still flapping.

That said, it's still pretty good.
Downpour and it is over... but a regular sprinkle and the bbq does not skip a beat.
