Actually, it makes sticky rice.

...

That doesn't seem better, now that I think about it.

Ha! My wife uses it to make brown rice too! ;)

I only make brown rice and legumes in mine. (Yes, if you soak dried beans for a few hours, they cook nicely in the rice cooker.)

I never knew about rice cookers until I married into a Chinese family. Now, I won't cook rice any other way.

In the Far East, the term Honky is meant to indicate someone from Hong Kong. Some considers that a derogatory term, but some don't.
I was therefore very surprised to learn that Honky can mean a derogatory term for a white person.

:-)

Yup, brown rice, too, Karl. Far better than waiting forever to keep an eye on it on the stove. I like the warning on them to not use anything other than the "official" pan to cook in them. Have Japanese won any Darwin awards for cooking in plastic bags or somesuch?

"Why must you see racism in everything?"
He's from America. We've been trained to look for things to be insulted by, because nothing empowers you more than playing the victim.
Love this comic! It's interesting to see how different cultures could react like that. :3 I think Japan is more lax in racism though right? They actually have signs out banning foreigners from certain places (because of obnoxious, rude tourists), right?

Considering just which cities have bars with "no foreigners w/o accompanying Japanese" rules, it's more likely they're discriminating against rowdy servicemen.

I have to agree with Miki on this one though, Carl is being a bit too ready to see racism, especially since hanki and honky don't even sound much alike. Just wait till he learns that one Japanese word for being serious is "honki" (which DOES sound like the English slur).

Meh. "Honky" is *supposed* to be a derogatory term, but I've never felt particularly offended by it.

I loved watching the Jeffersons from the 70's and hearing Goerge Jefferson say that lol.
