A collared shirt and tie is so generic. You could really bring in some American culture by wearing a "No fat chicks" t-shirt.

The boss at my schools had the general attitude of "Only come to me if it's very important, and I'll only come to you if it's very important."

However she was actually quite personable when she wasn't working.
