except junior high starts at seventh grade in Japan

You're right b! I should have put seventh grade or 1st years to be more precise. It always confused me that Junior High starts in seventh in Japan because in the U.S. it's usually sixth. Maybe I should bring this up in a future comic? ;)

When I was in school, it was K-6 in Elem 7-9 in Junior and 10-12 in High school.

For me, my school went K-6 for elementary, 6-8 in middle school (there weren't many 6th graders), and 9-12 in high school .

I never could understand why the Japanese teachers would allow such a massive psychological advantage in favor of the students.

Is that kid sniffing his foot?

In the US, the grades for each school vary widely (personally it was K, 1-3, 4-5, 6-8, 9-12 for me), but every single school in Japan is 1-6, 7-9, 10-12. No exceptions. That's how Japan rolls. lol

I fear for the teachers in Japan if they truly have any kids who have smelly feet. The sleeping before (or in) class...is kind of universal methinks.

Here's one joy I avoided by teaching in an eikaiwa school. Was the stink really that bad?
