OLD LADY! HI OLD LADY WHO STARES! I OFFICIALLY WATCH FOR YOU IN CROWD SCENES NOW! Which is probably pretty sad of me, but I do. She's one of my favorite characters now.

I just came back after five years in China. Same thing! Right on the money.

They can stare at you, but if you stare back, you are such a terrible person. This happened to me three times, a woman, it was always a woman... she would come to me and rub my hand or arms and touch my skin, like the black on my skin was really just dirt. They thought it was funny and I shouldn't be upset with them.

Honestly, this happened three times in five years in China.

You could always get one of these fake book covers, when the artist decides to make them available in some fashion:

maybe i'm just a weirdo (in fact, i'm fairly certain i am) but i could imagine having so much fun with everybody staring at me........i'm thinking crazy costumes, jerry maguire-esque tirades, doing crazy stuff that onlookers could not turn away from.

Never really happened to me in Osaka, but then again, it's a big trade city and I'm just some chubby white dude. So the worst I ever got was the drunk businessman on the 2 a.m train asking me to tutor him in English. In Beijing, however, women liked to put their hand on my stomach and ask me when I was due. Rassum frassum.

Re: the comment above- I lived in Korea for a few years and one time I was on the subway, just listening to my iPod, and this woman was STAAAARING at me. So I figured, meh, she's staring already, and I really like the song I'm listening to, so why not sing along? Twas fun.

I went to an all Korean club that is mostly asian people. They kept looking at me and my hair and at me again. When will this staring 'contest', in which I'm losing, will end?!

Good to know I'm not the only one. I just barely moved back from a 5-year stint as a teacher in China. I'm a big (my mom lovingly calls me "moose"), muscular (I can bench my own weight), nordic-style blond (push me into a snow drift and I vanish). And I'm female. You wouldn't believe the number of little kids who used to run away from me screaming! I guess they never heard of the Amazons.
