Upper Middle Class Man Survives Without Air Conditioning
/In the summer’s sweltering heat, Thomas Yardlong didn’t expect to spend countless days working from his condo with a broken air conditioner. It was tough enough having to do without the endless free snacks and espresso machines he was used to at the office before the pandemic.
His aircon was out, and repair companies wouldn’t be available to fix it for another week. In other words, the worst nightmare imaginable. Especially when temperatures were forecast to rise into the nineties the next few days. The repair costs would be high, but since he could afford them, definitely the wise choice.
He just had to make it through the next few days.
Thomas knew his reading of books like “The Art of War” and “Rich Dad Poor Dad” would come in handy in these tragic times. When the heat started rising inside his apartment, and the threat of heatstroke loomed, here’s how Thomas survived.
Walked to the corner store to buy Gatorade and bottles of Evian water. Drinking from the tap just wasn’t going to cut it.
Opened all the windows, for that cross breeze, and sat directly in front of his $400 Dyson oscillating fan with only his tank top undershirt.
It was all about mindset, he thought. Think “cool,” and you will be “cool.” Conquer your mind, but stay present in the moment. Unfortunately, he was still freakin’ hot and on the verge of passing out.
Remembering the Spike Lee movie “Do The Right Thing’” Thomas took out an ice cube and rubbed it all over his body. Paying particular attention to his nipple areas.
Dizzy from the hours working on his MacBook Pro in a steam sauna one-bedroom condo on the second floor, Thomas had to leave at dusk to get fresh air. Low and behold, it was much cooler outside. He should have come out earlier. What’re the benefits of working remotely if you can’t take your iPhone, with a mobile hotspot, outside to the park for that lunch meeting via Zoom?
Thomas survived the heat of the night. With the tower fan next to his bed at high speed while sleeping in the nude.
The next day, after learning from his mistakes, the hot afternoon was spent out of the house. He remained comfortable enough to get his tasks for the day completed and felt like a badass for overcoming adversity.
Thomas conquered the heatwave and marveled at all one person can achieve with the right attitude, the latest technology, and plenty of money.
Life is good.
